Pushing My Luck

The last time I slept in this bed
Was with you
And we barely slept at all
Just shifted our weight
Back and forth
Trying our best not to make a sound
As if tiptoeing across broken pianos

The only noise being my name
Escaping from your locked lips
As I told you I loved you

And I meant what I said
Despite my state of mind
And our limited time together

But you heard only what you chose to

You decided for yourself
That I didn't need you
But you couldn't have been more wrong

Like discordant notes in our song
You interrupted what could have been
A symphony
And turned it into sympathy
For a lost love
And a missed opportunity

So now all I have
Are these memories
Of our lustful dance
As I stand in this stance
Hoping for an encore
And a second chance
